Betty Jean Dodge
March 23rd, 1927 - September 28th, 2018
Betty Jean Dodge passed away peacefully Sept. 28, 2018 at the age of 91. Betty, along with her twin brother Jim, was born in Kellogg, Idaho at her grandmother’s home. In her early life, Betty was raised on the family homestead near Lane, Idaho. The family later moved to Lane, where Betty spent most of her young life. She graduated from Rose Lake High School and attended business school in Missoula, Mont. Betty began her career with the Veterans Administration. She later transferred to the Bonneville Power Administration in Spokane, Wash., moved to the Seattle office and later to Portland, while raising two children as a single parent. Betty started as a secretary and retired from BPA as a Personnel Administrator in 1984 after 34 years of service. Betty’s interests were gardening, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. There was something about Betty. She had the uncommon ability to listen without judgment and offered subtle and wise advice to help her family, work mates and basically, anyone. She was trusted and loved by everyone. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, John; her twin brother, Jim; and brothers, Howard and Harold. She is survived by her son, Larry (wife Christine) Felton; daughter, Kathy (husband Jim) Woodburn; grandchildren, Brian Woodburn, Matthew Woodburn, Rheanna Lenzmeier, Scott Felton; and seven great-grandchildren. Betty’s family sends a special thanks to staff at Cherry Blossom Cottage for the loving care extended to Betty. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any remembrances may be sent to Kaiser Permanente Hospice or the American Cancer Society. A celebration of life will be held for Betty at 11 a.m., Oct. 27, 2018, at Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes.
