Roland Henry Kissler
February 21st, 1923 - October 29th, 2010
Roland Kissler, 87, of Greeley, CO went to be with the Lord, Friday, October 29, 2010 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. He was born February 21, 1923 at Ault, CO to Henry and Henrietta (Miller) Kissler. He grew up near Ault, where his family farmed. He attended schools in Wyatt, and Gill until moving with his family east of Peckham where he attended Big Bend School and graduated from College High School in 1940. On February 22, 1948 Roland married Mary Leffler at St. Pauls Congregational Church in Greeley. Both Roland and Mary were charter members of the church. Roland was a hardworking, passionate farmer and cattle feeder in the Greeley area. He operated a successful cattle feeding business and farming operation south of Kersey until his retirement in 1984. Roland served on the board of directors for Lucerne Inc. from 1965 until his death. He also served as secretary for the Stransky Lateral Ditch Company retiring his position with them in 2008. He was a strong 4-H leader at La Grange for over 10 years. Roland had a passion for farming and hard work. He dedicated himself to teach water conservation, water storage, and water distribution throughout the state of Colorado. The family will remember him as a Brother in Christ, loyal, loving, a kidder, fun, considerate, one who stands firm on his convictions, a man of character, of great resolve, and most importantly a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He will be missed. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the nursing staff at North Colorado Medical Center for their compassion and support given unto the family and the care they showed Roland. Roland is survived by his wife; his son, Everett (Belinda) of Kersey, CO; daughters, Jeanne (Tom) Gilley of Greeley, Rolene (Paul) Barnhart of Algonquin, IL; grandchildren, Kris Gilley, Micah Kissler, Camila (Gilley)Tencza, Joshua Kissler, Kendra (Gilley) Hemminghaus, Andrew Kissler, and Samuel Merian; his sister, Violet Stromberger; 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Raymond Kissler, and sister Delores (Kissler) Eckas. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at St. Pauls Congregational Church 1525 43rd Avenue, Greeley. Viewing two hours prior to the service. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Community Outreach Center” in care of Greeley Wesleyan Church, 3600 West 22nd Street, Greeley, CO 80634.
