Arnold William Thurow, Jr., 62, of Greeley, CO passed away February 17, 2011 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado. He was the youngest of three children born to Arnold William Thurow, Sr. and Marian (Held) Thurow on December 16, 1948 in Denver, CO. He was known all of his life as Bill. Shortly after his birth he joined his sister, Pamela, and brother, John, at the ranch at Steamboat Springs, CO. The family lived there until they moved to the Lake View Angus Farm in Broomfield, CO in 1950. Bill attended first grade in a two-room country schoolhouse in Broomfield. In 1955 the family moved to the Flying-A- Angus Ranch at Hayden, CO. He finished elementary school and 2 years of junior high at Hayden. The family moved to Denver, CO at the end of May 1961. Bill was always active in sports, but especially wrestling. He wrestled in junior high, high school, and college. Bill graduated from Denver East High School in 1966. He attended Northeastern Jr. College in Sterling, CO for two years were he meet Zanna Janes of Sterling They were married on April 12, 1968. Bill and Zanna moved to Greeley where he transferred to Colorado State College now known as the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. In 1970 Bill was employed by the Weld County Sheriffs Office. He also worked the City of Gilcrest and the City of Evans as a police officer. In 1985, Bill started with the State of Colorado Revenue Division; he worked in the Kremmling, Granby and Hot Sulfur Springs offices, and then transferred to the Greely office. He finished his time with the state as a CDL compliance position until he retired in 2003. He instructed and trained those who were applying for a CDL license for all of Northern Colorado. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman even at an early age, spending many hours with his family and friends hunting and fishing. As a child on the ranch at Hayden he made sure there were always fishing poles in the vehicle. He spent most of his free time at the family cabin outside of Steamboat Spring, which he built in 1966. Many days were spent swimming and fishing in Morrison Creek. His two daughters both learned to fish from their father. Three of his grandchildren all had their first fishing lessons from "Bompa” on Morrison Creek fishing for Brooke Trout. His oldest daughter Tammy also learned to hunt from him. He loved to hunt for big game including deer, elk, antelope, and moose. He also loved to go bird hunting with his favorite hunting dogs, Sarge and Shaddy. Bill is survived by his wife Zanna; and two daughters, Tammy Sue Thurow Schneider, husband Bill, and grandson, Reno Augustus of Kersey, CO and Wendy Ann Thurow Cunningham, her husband Ronnie, and granddaughters, Alexandria Stirgus, Serna Maxine Cunningham, and Josephine Janes Cunningham of Seattle, WA.; sister, Pamela A. Thurow of Greeley; brother, John Thurow and his wife Janet; step niece Anleit; and step nephew, Jarrerd of Kansas. In addition there are many sister and brother in laws and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marian Held Thurow and Arnold William Thurow Sr.; maternal and paternal grandparents. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
