Leonard John Ackerson
November 27th, 1904 - March 12th, 1997
Leonard J. Ackerson, 92, of Greeley died Wednesday, March 12, 1997 at Kenton Manor. He was born November 27, 1904 in Red Cloud, NE to Roland E. and Elizabeth Leora (Martin) Ackerson. On June 4, 1931 he married Hermie Heyen on Omaha, NE. She died April 10, 1981. He married Lillian F. Scott on March 4, 1984 in Greeley. Mr. Ackerson graduated from high School in Adams, NE. He served in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific and was involved in the invasion of Tarawa in Marianas. He worked for Farr Elevator Co. in Nunn and retired in 1977. After his retirement, he worked as a mechanic on Evinrude boat motors in Greeley. Mr. Ackerson was a member of Village Christian Church and the Greeley Senior Activity Center. Survivors are his wife, Lillian of Greeley; a son, Stephen Rollie Ackerson also of Greeley; a stepdaughter, Linda G. Blackburn; stepson, Stephen Messick; sister-in-law, Elva Ackerson of Sidney, NE; grandson, Chad Ackerson, step granddaughter, Shelly Knott; and two great-granddaughters. A sister, Virginia Onstott, and two brothers, Glenn and Robert are deceased. Friends may visit from Noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 15, 1997 and March 16, 1997 at Adamson Chapel. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Adamson Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to "Village Christian Church in care of the Mortuary.
