Jennie "Welsh" Ellen Landolt
September 12th, 1920 - March 24th, 2013
Jennie Landolt peacefully passed away on March 24, 2013. Jennie Ellen Welsh was born to parents Fred and Grace Welsh in Wibaux Montana on September 12th 1920. She was the youngest of seven children. When Jennie was five years old the family moved to Oregon, where her father took a job with the State of Oregon Highway Department. Due to the nature of her father’s work, they moved frequently over the years. Jennie told stories of life in Lafayette, Hillsboro, Beaverton and Multnomah. Though she was not born in Oregon, she thought of herself as an Oregonian and displayed that through her great love of the rain, which she never tired of! Jennie graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937 and took her young children to the Rose Parade every year, where she would watch and wait to cheer loudly for the Lincoln High Band. She met Mike H. “Bud” Landolt while living in Multnomah and they married in 1940. They had four children. In later years they traveled in their R.V., making many trips to Mexico and Arizona, where they made several long lasting friendships. These were great years for Mike and Jennie. Mike passed away in 1989. Jennie worked in the shipyards during the war. Over the years she worked as a secretary for doctors and dentists and for the twenty years prior to retirement, she was the church secretary at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Beaverton. She also had the “part-time” job of helping run Mike’s company, Mike Landolt Trucking. Jennie loved to sing and dance around the house and would often grab up one of her children to waltz them around the room. She could play the piano wonderfully by ear and would entertain her family and friends by playing hymns, as well as Hank Williams songs! She loved to have fun and be silly. Somehow she still found the time to wash, iron, clean, shop, sew, can foods and pack lunches, make three meals a day and bake several times per week. In 1968, Jennie met her best friend, Toni Vanderwolf and they had many wonderful years of laughter and fun. They were truly sisters at heart! In 1997 she married Calvin (Cal) Koch. Jennie and Cal did some traveling in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Jennie got to see the Grand Canyon before she turned eighty. They had a lot of fun together. Cal passed away in 2010. Jennie was a woman who was satisfied with the simple things in life like a new book, a pair of socks, pajamas or dish towels and speaking of books, she loved to read! She also crocheted in her early retirement years and in later years was an avid crossword puzzle worker. She also loved driving to The Village Inn in Beaverton for breakfast almost every day, where she enjoyed visiting with the staff (especially Traci), and made new friends among the “regulars”. Jennie lived in her home in Beaverton from 1956 until July of 2012. She was a Beaverton Library volunteer for several years. She is survived by her children; Bruce (Sandi) Landolt of Bend, Sandy (Gil) Scharringhausen of Portland, Becky (Doug) Logan of Gaston and Carol (Brian) Lee of Gaston, 8 beloved grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Jennie was a wonderful, care giving mother and friend who leaves a great void for us here, though she rejoices with her Savior in Heaven! Service Information
