Katherine Margaret Baxley
May 17th, 1948 - February 26th, 2022
Katherine Margaret Baxley passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at UC Health Greeley. Her last moments were peaceful and loving, surrounded by her immediate family who all spent time with her, holding hands and saying goodbye (for now). “Oma”, as she is known by her grandchildren, is loved, and cherished by family and friends alike. Kathy loved her family very much and lived a life of love, happiness, and laughter. Kathy was born May 17, 1948, in Brighton, Colorado to Henry and Della (Staley) Trupp. At that time, the family was farming in the Prospect Valley area and in 1953 they moved to Greeley where she grew up and graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1966. After high school, she started working for the Weld County Government in the Clerk & Recorders office. She met Russell Allen Baxley and they married on May 17, 1968. She raised two children and received her Associate of Accounting degree from AIMS in December 1988. She retired in 2012 after 31 years as the office manager for Weld County Paramedic services, where she was considered “mom” to many. She and her husband own property in the mountains at Crystal Lakes, Colorado, where she enjoyed the wildlife as well as watching the grandkids fishing and having fun. She also loved her volunteer work, which included serving at church, the Stampede Wranglers, giving hearing tests to newborns at the hospital, and numerous other charitable activities. She loved being around people, visiting, keeping connected with friends and family, and being the family historian as well as attending craft shows, aerobic classes, traveling and gardening. Most important was being “Oma” to her three grandkids. She loved doing anything they loved doing and was enthusiastic and supportive of their activities and dreams. Kathy was diagnosed with MDS (a form of leukemia) in 2018. She received a stem cell transplant and was in remission by April 2019. Her family is very grateful to her brother, Jim, for his stem-cell match and the extra three years we all had with her. Thankful to have shared her life are her husband, Russ, children; Rushelle (Mark) Davy and Ryan (Sonia) Baxley, three grandchildren; Elizabeth, Faith and Will Baxley, her siblings; June Croissant, Beverly Duvall, Donna Weber, and James (Bonnie) Trupp as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard and Jerry, and her parents. Kathy’s Life Celebration will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022, at Christ Community Church with a visitation one hour prior. A reception will follow the Life Celebration at the church. Private family interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to “Weld County Food Bank”, “Greeley Dream Team” or “Anschutz Cancer Center” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
