Howard Storms Wheeler, Jr.
December 25th, 1934 - April 7th, 2022
Howard Storms Wheeler, Jr. 87, of Greeley, passed away April 7, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born December 25, 1934 in Batavia, New York to Howard Storms and Helen (Lehmann) Wheeler where he grew up and graduated Valedictorian from Batavia High School. Prior to college, he enlisted in the Army Reserve and was on active duty in Korea from April 14, 1959 until September 12, 1959. He completed his service with the reserve and received an Honorable Discharge. He went on to Cornell University where he received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree. He worked for Exxon and Ciba-Geigy in Engineering and Executive positions and retired from GenCorp as President of the Latex Division. In retirement he formed his own company and became a consultant to a variety of different companies and a mentor to many. Through his business opportunities, he was able to travel to 46 countries. Howard married Susan Elizabeth Olesen and they recently celebrated 29 years of marriage. Howard was an avid antique collector, loved opera, reading, travel and enjoyed a good glass of wine and chocolate. For many years he enjoyed golfing and was fortunate to play in several Pro-Am and corporate events on some of the best courses in the country. He enjoyed 70 years of skiing. Survivors include his wife, Susan, children; William (Helena) Wheeler, Ben (Raina) Wheeler, Margaret (Matt) Farmer, Tamsen (Dave) Troy, Shane McLean Wheeler, step-children; Lana Nassen, Dan (Abby) Murphy and Sarah (Thomas) Schreiber, 12 grandchildren; Benjamin, Emma and Sophia Wheeler, Gemma and Breccan Troy, Juni and Tori Farmer, Ayla Nassen, Everleigh and Elowen Murphy, Liam and Andrew Schreiber. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and business associates. Howard’s family will host a Life Celebration gathering on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 12’noon-3:00 p.m. on the patio at The Tavern at St. Michael’s, Greeley. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to “The Greeley Chorale Development Fund” in care of Adamson, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634. Friends may leave condolences at AdamsonCares.com.
