Earlene Maye Boyum, a long-time resident of SE Portland, passed away Wednesday the 14th of September, 2016 at 11:12 pm at Sunnyside Kaiser Permanente after a valiant fight against complications related to pneumonia. She was 67 years old and lived at home with her son, Paul Michael Boyum, and daughter-in-law, Cindy Boyum. She is survived by her two children, Heidi Lynn Boyum (31) and Paul (28), and grandchildren, Isaiah Marcell (12) and McKenzie Conant (2), who all currently reside in Portland, OR and brought great joy to her later years. Also surviving is her niece, Neilene May Blakely. Born in 1948 in the small town of Sutherlin, OR to father Earl Raymond Boyum and Ada Mae Nelson, Earlene later moved to Portland, OR and received an Associate's degree from Mt. Hood Community College and became a registered nurse (RN). Earlene held several jobs as an RN until finally finding a home at the Portland VA medical center where she worked for over 29 years in the operating room until retirement in December 2012. Earlene practiced nursing for over 37 years. In 1967, Earlene lost the love of her life, Scott Moeller, at the age of 18. He currently resides at Roseburg Memorial Gardens in Roseburg, OR alongside her parents, Earl and Ada. Earlene later married and divorced in her 20's and never remarried. She conceived both Heidi and Paul via artificial insemination from the same sperm donor at age 36 and 38, respectively. Earlene was an avid reader and coffee drinker. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, go "bargain hunting", and put together silk flower arrangements in her garage. She also enjoyed spending time with her calico companion, Kaitlin, and canine companions, Leo and Gracie. Earlene's final wishes included direct cremation at Sunnyside Chapel of the Chimes in Happy Valley, OR with no funeral or viewing. Service Information
