Elaine was born to Austin and Marie Lord on March 4, 1937 and passed away March 10, 2016. Elaine grew up in the Lents area and went to Franklin High School and attended Pasadena Community College and Portland State University. One of her fondest memories was being crowned Franklin High Schools Rose Festival Princess in 1954. In 1958, she met the met the love of her life Frank while at the Coast with friends, they married the same year. One of her favorite places in the world is Netarts, Oregon where she would spend time throughout her life, she cherished her time at the Coast. Elaine was a stay at home Mom until her kids were in High School, then she accepted a position with Teresa J Spada, CPA as an Office Manager and Terry’s first employee, she was surprised Terry hired her, saying in her words she “failed the typing test miserably”. Elaine loved working for Terry, their relationship which spanned close to 40 years was more of a family bond than that of an employer and employee. Her garden was where Elaine found peace, she would work in it for hours at a time, and it did not matter if the sun was out or if it was raining. There were bird feeders throughout their backyard, which she enjoyed. Other hobbies were Golfing, Painting, Reading, Traveling and spending time with her family, including visiting Eric and Ellen at their home in Tacoma, Ocean Shores or at Desert Aire, Washington. There were many wonderful family gatherings with the Starbuck ‘Clan’, from ‘Crawdad’ feeds at their home to bonfires at Happy Camp, Golf Tournaments or celebrating holidays together. Very happy times! Elaine loved to travel and took many trips to Europe with Frank’s Brother and his wife, Richard and Ethel Hedlund, as well as a trip with her Sister Viv. Elaine and Breona traveled to New York several times and to San Francisco, one of the trips to NY was dubbed ‘Flight for Freedom’ which followed the September 11, 2001 tragedy, along with Richard and Ethel they were treated like royalty and had an amazing trip. Frank and Elaine loved to travel together as well, taking trips to Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and numerous road trips to Las Vegas, Reno, San Francisco and Sacramento to visit Frank’s brother Darrell and his wife Delores, they also loved to travel within Oregon, many times taking their grand kids with them. Trips to Hawaii were accompanied by Marvin and Marilyn Hedlund, they also toured the East Coast together one Fall to see the leaves change color. She thoroughly enjoyed each trip she took. Elaine and Frank were fortunate to live within walking distance to her brother Russell and his wife Janet, who treated them to dinner on many, many occasions and would look after their home when they went on trips. Elaine is survived by her immediate family; husband Frank, son Eric and his wife Ellen, daughter Breona Bennett and her husband Doug, grandchildren Lacey Hedlund and Brian and Katherine ‘Katie’ Bennett; sister Vivian Starbuck, brother Russell Lord and his wife Janet and their children; Dianne, George and John (Starbuck) and Warren and Janet (Lord) as well as numerous relatives on her husband’s side of the family. She was preceded in death by her Parents Austin and Marie Lord, grandson Nikolas and brother-in-law David Starbuck, her beloved four legged family members; Heidi, Venus and Felix. The family would like to thank the Memory Care staff at The Courtyard at Mt Tabor for the loving care they provided Elaine during her brief stay there and Kaiser Permanente’s Hospice Care team, you were all truly amazing. Special thanks to Russell and Janet Lord for the love and support they provided to her husband and children the last few months, by helping make challenging times easier. Words cannot express the loss the family feels at this time, Elaine was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.
