Harold Lee Chapel
June 26th, 1956 - January 9th, 2024
Harold ( Hal) Lee Chapel was born on June 26, 1956 in Sterling, Colorado . His parents are Hilda Chapel and Gerald Chapel (deceased).They lived in Stoneham, Colorado where his parents raised turkeys on a farm. Harold began his school career in a one room rural school in Stoneham. He was 6 years old and had no classmates, His father, Gerald, passed away from a brain tumor when Harold was 7 years old. This loss motivated him to become a medical doctor. The family moved to Sterling, Colorado after his father's death. Harold graduated from Sterling High in 1974 and continued on to Northeastern Junior College for 2 years. He transferred to the University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated in 1978 with a degree in chemistry. He was accepted at the University of Colorado Medical School in Denver and graduated in 1982. He accepted an internship and residency position at Creighton Affiliated Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska completing the program in 1985. He married Vicki Moore in Sterling on June 6, 1983 and they returned to Omaha for the next 2 years. They moved to Ripley, Tennessee to serve a 2 year commitment in a medically underserved area. After that commitment was complete, they moved to Brush, Colorado, where Harold practiced Internal Medicine. Their two daughters, Kaitlin (1987) and Kelsea (1992) were born while living in Brush. While in Brush, Harold became interested in heart disease and wanted to study cardiology. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he attended the University of Tennessee Medical Center and spent 3 years studying to be a cardiologist. The family then moved to Waco,Texas where Harold practiced cardiology for 6 years before returning to Greeley in 2002 to practice with Banner Cardiology. Harold had a large medical practice and was beloved by many patients and staff. He resigned in 2019 due to serious health issues. His certifications were Board Certified in Nuclear Cardiology (2017); Certified in Advance Heart Failure and Transplant (2014); Certified in Cardiovascular Disease (1997); Board certified in Geriatric Medicine (1991); Lifetime certification in Internal Medicine (1985); licensed physician in states of Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, Nebraska and Tennessee. He considered earning his certification in cardiac transplant in 2014 to be one of the highlights of his career. Harold is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Dan Chapel (1963). He is survived by his wife, Vicki, two daughters, Kaitlin and Kelsea (Matteo), his brother Jim (Mary),Emily (niece), Gabriel (nephew) and his mother, Hilda A. Chapel. Harold loved living in Colorado where he enjoyed skiing and was known for growing a huge vegetable garden, that he loved sharing with everyone. The family of Harold Chapel would like to thank you for celebrating his life with us today. Rest in peace, Harold. You are loved and missed.
