Bernard (Bernie) F. Shima was born November 16, 1934 in Sutliff Iowa to Fred A. and Rowena A Shima. The family moved to Loveland Colorado in 1950.  Bernie graduate from Loveland High School in 1952. On September 12, 1956 Bernie married the love of his life, Virginia "Gin” Drimmel.  They were blessed with three boys and made their home in Loveland. In 1959 Bernie began his own business "Shima Custom Building” and built many custom homes in Loveland and surrounding areas.  He was a perfectionist at his work and continued to perform perfection until he became sick in July of 2018. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Rowena Shima, parent in-laws Jack and Judy Drimmel, brother and wife Dave and Evelyn Shima, sons B. Gary and Donald Gene Shima. Bernie is survived by his wife Gin of Livermore; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Carol Shima of Loveland; daughter-in-law Karen Shima of Salida CO; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Shirley Shima of Billings MT; sister-in-law Ellen Dickerson of Newhall CA; sister and brother-in-law Margie and Ron Lantz of Broomfield, CO; sister-in-law Marion Peterson of Safford, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews; 5 grandchildren Lacy Schlenker (Wade) of Drake CO, Lindsy Dellatto (Michael) of Loveland CO, Karina Vick (Brennan)  of Fort Collins, CO, Jolene Nava (Jason)  of Los Angeles, CA, Daniel Foster (Shirley) of Ridgedale, MO; and 8 great grandchildren Audrey, Scarlett, Drake, Dylan, Marley Leigh, Yuri, Amelia and Zach. Bernie was very active in the Chapel in the Pines, Red Feather Lakes, CO serving as an Elder, Board Member and maintenance person. Bernie loved hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. Bernie and Gin celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in September and loved vacationing in Branson, Florida, Hawaii and spending time with family. Bernie’s warm and genuine smile drew many people into a lifelong friendship. He will be greatly missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at Chapel in the Pines, 23947 W County Rd 74e, Red Feather Lakes, CO on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at 2 PM and reception to follow. At the family's request, please No flowers.
