Kathleen Ann Hopkins, Nov 20, 1944 – March 18, 2020, Mother, Grandmother, Proud and Passionate Citizen of America. Kathleen Ann Hopkins (75) passed away on March 18, 2020 from complications of diabetes and pneumonia and returned to her creator. This is a day she looked forward to, and her family takes comfort in knowing her final wish was granted. Born to Esther and Raymond Hopkins on Nov 20, 1944 in Glenwood Springs, Co. A lifelong believer and devout follower of Jesus, Kathleen was baptized the summer of 1957 in Glenwood Springs, CO. She attended Glenwood Springs Elementary, Grand Junction High School, and received her MA in Communications and Theatre at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Kathleen’s life was filled and fueled by her passions: family, politics, and theatre. One of Kathleen’s greatest strengths was her ability to never leave you guessing. As an avid participant in sharing her thoughts and opinions, you always knew where she stood. One of her proudest endeavors was to be an honorary member of the Sudanese People’s Liberation Association. Freedom and the idea of America is a movement she was deeply passionate in supporting. Kathleen served her communities as a volunteer EMT with the New Castle Ambulance, a certified addictions counselor, provided drama therapy at a special needs school, an Assistant Director at the County Crisis Center, participated on the Salvation Army Service Committee, and supported the Soldiers Angels in Loveland. She also contributed to the arts through participation as a playwright, director, and actor in many plays in both the Glenwood Springs and Denver areas. The gifts she created utilizing her artistic skills of sketching, painting, crafting, and clay molding brought joy to many friends and family throughout her lifetime.  A lover of wilderness and nature, Kathleen also enjoyed preserving the goods from her garden. A family favorite was her mint jelly. She is survived by her sons, Robin (Deanna) and Rich (Kattie); and her grandchildren Alaina Peckham, Jaren Peckham, Asher Huntsman, Adalynn Peckham, and Aurick Peckham. She also leaves behind her plastic roommate, Miranda (we’ll miss her themed attire greeting everyone that passed by). And because she considered her four-legged companions family, she also leaves behind Max (who is by far the most vocal in the residence).  Kathleen will be cremated, and her ashes will be interred at the Fisher Cemetery in Spring Valley. A service followed by a Celebration of Life will take place when it is safe for family and friends to join together and share wonderful stories in her memory as we listen to Amazing Grace played on the bagpipe. Until then, we’ll do as she asked us and "Look to the stars – that’s where I’ll be.” In lieu of flowers, please donate to her most respected charity, The Salvation Army. See Obituary for Details
