Richard Cleve Johnson
September 15th, 1939 - July 17th, 2019
Richard Cleve Johnson, 79, of Fort Collins, Colorado entered into the presence of his Savior; July 17, 2019 in his home, after a courageous battle with cancer for almost two years. Richard was born September 15, 1939 at home, 7 miles southeast of Chimney Rock; Bayard, Nebraska, to Cleve Richard and Audrey LaVere (Steffensmeier) Johnson. Richard accepted the Lord as his Savior while in grade school listening to a program on Back to the Bible Radio. He later rededicated his life to the Lord at a "fire and brimstone" meeting in Morrill, Nebraska. Richard received his GED while serving in the United States army in Korea. He served from 1957 to 1960. He was a crane / shovel operator / truck driver connected to the 101st Airborne Post in Seoul, Incheon Harbor, Kunsan, Pyong-Nyang Do, Korea. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist Fifth Class Staff Sergeant. After returning from military service he married Patricia (Patty) Lowry at the Berean Fundamental Church in Scottsbluff, Nebraska; by Pastor Carl Goltz, December 23, 1960. They were blessed with four children. Richard worked at Town & Country, Co-op Food store and Woodmen Insurance, he owned and operated Johnson Standard Service Station for 8 years. He also worked at Heiner Implement and Co-op as a mechanic. In 1983 Richard and Patty moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where he worked at Foothills Chrysler and Montgomery Ward's as an auto technician. In Scottsbluff he was a member of the Scottsbluff Berean Church, after moving he attended Faith Evangelical Church where he served as a deacon and on the mission committee. He was privileged to serve on a mission’s trip to Venezuela. In later years he became a member of Front Range Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon and on the mission committee. Richard enjoyed gardening, traveling to Arizona, fishing, going to estate / garage sales and selling refurbished items on eBay where the money's he received went to Front Range Baptist Academy and various missionaries supported by the church. One of the missionaries close to his heart were the Chapmans in Moldova (Eastern Europe). He is survived by his wife of 58 years; Patty. Children Becky (Herman) Hasenauer of North Platte, Ruth (James) Ferdig, and Cleve and Tim Johnson all of Fort Collins, Colorado. He leaves behind nine grandchildren 20 great-grandchildren and two special grandchildren. Through the miracle gift of a kidney, he also claimed 5 "kidney kids and 5 grandkids" Richard's favorite verse was 1 John 5:10-13. Memorial services will be held at Front Range Baptist Church in Fort Collins, Colorado on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. On Tuesday, July 23, 2019, inurnment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at 10:15am.
