Carol Sue Vogt

After a valiant battle with cancer, Carol (Nana) Sue Vogt went to Heaven to be with her lifelong love Von on December 13, 2023 with those who meant the most to her by her side. Carol was born October 2, 1937 to Forest C. and Dorothy E. (Vogler) Lillie. Carol attended Colorado Springs high school, where she met her lifelong love, Vonley Vogt. Von and Carol married September 6, 1957 in Colorado Springs. After welcoming a second son the family relocated to Steamboat Springs CO. where Von joined the Colorado State Patrol. After adding another son the family eventually planted roots in Colorado Springs. Along with being a super Mom and home maker, it was often said Carol never made the same dinner twice. Carol Sue held several positions at Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph where she rose to District Manager role. She worked at Harrison High in Colorado Springs as well. Carol was a master seamstress, which helped grow her square dance apparel shop “Carols Square Dance Corral” in Colorado Springs. Carol and Von traveled the country attending regional and national square dance events, expanding her business. Demand for her custom-made square dance apparel grew nationwide. She could make an entire square dance outfit including dress, petticoat, pettipants and men’s western shirt from scratch in just a few days. Carol and Von enjoyed traveling and camping as well. While still working Von and Carol did 2 three-year stints in Europe and 1 three year stint in Panama. This afforded them the opportunity to travel all of Europe and much of Central America before retiring in January 1998. They retired on 11 acres in Big Thompson canyon outside Loveland Colorado. Following retirement, Von and Carol Sue loaded their 5th wheel to explore North America. Their travels took them to every corner of the US including a summer long tour of Alaska. Eventually they landed on South Padre Island, where they would spend winters (hibernating) with their beloved yorkies. One of her favorite island activities was chasing shrimp boats when they brought fresh caught shrimp to shore during shrimping season. Those “winter Texans” looked like kids chasing popsicle trucks. Summers were spent touring Colorado with family and various camping groups. Carol was devoted to her family, spent much of her life fulfilling family dreams. The footprint she leaves behind is too great to measure, and the impact of her passing will be felt by many. Carol will be sorely missed by all who loved her and those who had the privilege of having her in their life. She is survived by sons Lonney (Martha) Vogt, Scott (Sheri) Vogt and Ross (Robyn) Vogt, grandchildren Kirsten Marie (Dan) Sweeney, Amberley (Nick) Vogt, Aimey Vogt, and Nicholas (Natalie) Vogt. Great grandchildren Rhyley Vogt, Jessica and Nick Sweeney, great-great grandchildren Jessie. Sister Sharon (Dick) Gilbert, brother-in-law Jerry (Peggy) Vogt, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and life-long friends. Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband Von Vogt, her father and mother, as well as brothers Robert Lillie (and his wife Sara), Dean Lillie (and his wife Charlene) and sister Kathleen (Mike) Church. Memorial Service 10 AM Saturday January 13, 2024, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church 3411 S Taft Ave Loveland, CO 80537. Cremation entrusted to Viegut Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Carol’s name.
