Avon Anderson grew up in Bay City, MI and was born to Bela Dora and Dewy Anderson. She was the second youngest of nine children. She had a spunky zest for life, growing up surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins, developing a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to connect with people. In Avon’s senior year in high school, she moved in with her sister and her brother-in-law, Ione and Ken (KC) Williams. She worked as a seamstress and helped raise Ione and KC’s four children, Kenny Jr, David, Sharon and Sandra. The family left Michigan, headed for California, but along the way, their 1958 Ford Edsel with the Airstream in tow, broke down in Loveland, CO. The family decided to stay in Loveland and called it home for many years. While living in Loveland, Avon worked many different jobs. She worked for Hewlett Packard, the Lego factory, and the Levi factory. KC started a construction company in Loveland and later relocated to Hayden Lake, ID. In Idaho, Avon worked on the construction sites during the day, and in the garment factory in the evenings. In her forties, Avon studied and earned her GED and her real estate license - in the very same day. After spending several years as a realtor (and working for several other companies), Avon and KC started their own real estate company, Gateway Realty. Avon sold real estate in Post Falls, ID for 20 years. Once retired, Avon, Ione, and KC moved four times in six years. First, from Post Falls, ID back to Loveland, CO. Next, they headed southwest to Las Cruces, New Mexico, and shortly after that - to Buhl, ID, before finally settling down in Huachuca City, AZ. Avon would joke that after all the various moves in Penske trucks, she was experiencing “Penske” withdrawal and just might rent a moving truck and drive around the block to get through the withdrawal symptoms! While in Arizona, KC fell ill. Ione and Avon cared for him until the Lord took him home. It was two short years later that Ione became sick. Avon cared for her sister till she was called home, too. Avon spent two more years in Arizona, before moving to Loveland, CO to be near her family. Avon was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She enjoyed many outdoor activities. In her early years, she won several awards in archery competitions. She also enjoyed deer, elk, and antelope hunting. Most mornings, during all seasons of the year, Avon would spend time fishing on Sand Point Lake before going to work for the day. She was also an amateur HAM radio operator, her call sign was W7WBZ. The family traveled the United States in pursuit of achieving a prestigious HAM radio award for reaching all 3077 counties in the United States. This included counties in Hawaii and Alaska. Avon was adept in using morse code. Avon, Ione, Sharon, and Sandra shared a love of crafting and attended several crafting conventions. Avon enjoyed creating cards for family and friends. Her creations were always beautiful, detailed, and clever. She would always stamp the back of her cards with “better than a Hallmark”. In addition, she enjoyed pouring ceramics and creating horse hair pottery. Avon is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and one great, great, great niece and one great-great-great nephew. She was just as her Chevy Blazer license plate said, GR8 ANT. Memorial service will be Friday February 23, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Calvary Church Derby Hill in Loveland, CO.
