Sandra Sachs After a long and fulfilling life Sandra Sachs passed on April 16th, 2023 at Mountain Vista senior living center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado surrounded by her three sons. The focus of Sandy’s life was raising her boys. She was known for her sweet smile, her accommodating personality, and her incredible resiliency when facing many challenges. Sandy was Born June 18, 1936 in Hammond, Indiana. Sandra Benjamin was born to Sol and Thelma (Manlan) and older sister Judy. In her youth she loved to dance, read, help with social issues like collecting cans for the war and the homeless, ride her bike, and laugh. As a young professional Sandy earned her undergraduate Bachelor of Science in education in 1958 at Indiana University. She met her first husband Carl Hollander at Indiana University. Married in Indiana, the young couple moved to Denver, Colorado in a Volkswagen camper van. The couple camped and fished most weekends. She was hired to teach at Adams City, then transferring to Sheridan Middle School. She was solely dedicated to her three sons after getting divorced in the early 1970s. Sandy battled through many health struggles, but remained always positive, and focused on her boys. In the 1990’s she moved to Arizona to be closer to her mother, Temmie. There she met and married Paul Sachs. They had many adventures together traveling the world, performing magic, attending Temple, and socializing. Famous for her cookbook of family recipes, her thrift store shopping, matzo ball soup, and entertaining at Passover seder. She was preceded in death by her sister Judy Himmelstein, mother Thelma Swartzberg, father Sol Benjamin, husband Carl Hollander, and second husband Paul Sachs. She is survived by her three sons David, Joel, and Daniel. Their wives Danna, Emrie, and Jenny. Grandchildren Erin, Eli, Sadie, Conrad, and Owen. Those of us who were lucky enough to be loved by her will miss her singing voice, her laugh, and her stories. To know you was to know incredible resilience and strength. Rest well.
