Susan Casey
July 7th, 1948 - May 25th, 2024
On May 25th 2024 Susan Casey passed away in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Susan was born July 7th 1948 in Oakland CA.to Raymond and Helen (Sloan) Casey. Susan grew up in Denver, CO., graduated George Washington High School in 1967 and joined the Army National Guard in 1972. Susan is survived by her two younger sisters: Judy Casey Galyon of Chickamauga, GA. and Patricia Casey Knapp, of Aiken, SC. and daughter Kelly and 2 grandchildren, all of St. Louis, MO.
Susan had found her true calling when she served in the Military, both Army and Army National Guard. She was trained in many different disciplines including medical and finance. Susan excelled as a finance officer and was deployed to numerous locations across the US and Germany providing assistance in finance and accounting. Susan’s success eventually achieved her the rank of Sergeant Major. She was asked to teach at the Sergeant Major Academy in Texas, but ultimately decided to accept a position at the Pentagon as a Public Relations liaison developing advertising for Army National Guard recruitment. During her busy career, Susan found time to achieve her bachelor’s degree in finance from University of Maryland. Susan retired from the Army at Ft. Carson,
CO in October 1995. Susan loved serving her country and will always be remembered by her friends and family as a true patriot.
After Susan’s retirement, she pursued a career in journalism, becoming an award-winning reporter for the Douglas County News Press. Susan’s other passion from an early age was the love of German Shepherd Dogs. She was involved in all aspects of the breed, including showing, breeding, and rescue. She became the editor of the National German Shepherd Dog Review magazine. Susan lived a full life providing service to her country and support to all of her friends. She will be missed – carry on soldier!
