George Raymond Nassif

George Raymond Nassif, 87, went to meet the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 surrounded by family. He was born March 25, 1928 in Laurinburg, NC, son of the late Abdo Nassif and Adele Essy Nassif. Mr. Nassif was a 1945 graduate of Laurinburg High School and a 1950 graduate of The University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. A beer and wine distributor, George was associated with The National Brewing Company as a Regional Sales Representative, owner of Queen City Beverages, and also worked as General Manager of Southern Wholesale, Inc. in Charlotte. Later in his career, Mr. Nassif worked as Sales Manager on Premise with Bealer Wholesale and retired as General Manager of Empire Distributors of North Carolina, Inc. He served as Chairman of the North Carolina Wine Association and as a member of the Charlotte Grocery Manufacturers Representatives Association. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 P.M. Monday, December 7, 2015 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte with Father Frank O"Rourke, Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 P.M. prior to the Mass. Entombment will follow the Mass in the Sylvan Abbey Mausoleum at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bergie; 4 daughters, Laura Edwards (Thomas), of Matthews, NC, Sharon Nassif, of Fort Mill, SC, Paula Nassif, of Charlotte, and Georgia Fontana (Bob), of Matthews; and 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Myatt (Jerry), Stephen Shope (Yukino), of Charlotte, Jacob Edwards (Meghan), of Matthews, and Bobby Fontana and Victoria Fontana, of Matthews; and several nieces and nephews.
