Memorial

On September 30th, 2021, Margie Edge Harris departed this life at the age of 84 years with family by her side. Born January 23, 1937 in Columbus County, NC, she was the youngest child of the late Andrew and Letha Edge. She held many fond childhood memories on the family farm and throughout life with sisters Vernie, Ollie and Elsie and brother Earl, all of whom preceded her in death. As a bright young woman, she won several academic awards at Williams Township High School, attended Meredith College, and graduated from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh. She worked for the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co. and retired after a long career with the Mecklenburg County tax office. In her work, she felt fortunate to meet and maintain close, lifelong friendships with a small cherished circle of women. Margie enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything else. She was a very loving, kind and supportive mother to her three daughters. She was known for her truly unconditional love of her family. She had a love of music and dancing, and enjoyed fishing at the beach, cooking, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, playing tennis and Canasta, and catching up with friends. Her sense of humor, infectious laugh and ability to give great advice made her a joy to be around for those who knew her. Margie was a devout Christian, attending Dilworth United Methodist Church in Charlotte for many years with husband James 'Dan' Harris, who passed away in 2012 after decades of loving marriage. Margie is survived by her daughters: Sharon Bullock and husband Kyle, Rhinda Peterson and husband John, Dana Yarbrough and husband Jason; grandchildren: Kevin Bullock and wife Emilie, Haley Sheaffer and husband Zack, Matthew McKee and wife Amy, Kaitlyn McKee and partner Neal Allen; and great-grandchildren: Anderson McKee, Soren McKee, and Adelyn Sheaffer. The loss of our beloved matriarch cannot be overstated, but as we now celebrate and remember her incredible life, we find comfort in the many priceless memories of her rich personality, and continue to feel the warmth of the same selfless love she showed each of us in life. The Memorial Service to celebrate Margie's life will be on Wednesday, October 6th at Dilworth United Methodist Church at 605 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC. Visitation will be at 11:00 AM followed by the memorial service at 12:00 PM.
