Memorial

Florence "Biddie" Bower, 91, of Monroe, NC, formerly of Charleston, WV, Crossville, TN, and Indian Land, SC, passed away after a short illness on December 3, 2021 with family at her side. Biddie was born in Gilbert, WV, seventh out of eight children, to Virgil Pierce Conley and Susan America Spratt Conley. Following her mother's death in 1947, Biddie went to live in Sissonville, WV with relatives, where she met her future husband, Chauncey Bower. In 1950, Chauncey and Biddie married. Biddie was a loving mother, homemaker, and a dedicated oil field wife moving around West Virginia to follow Chauncey's work. At the age of 45, Chauncey and Biddie moved to Crossville, TN, following an oil boom where they lived for 30 years. They then moved to the Carolinas to be near family. Chauncey and Biddie were married 63 years until Chauncey passed away in 2013. Biddie saw the beauty in life and looked for ways to enjoy each day. She loved to entertain, always welcoming friends and family for a visit. Her family and friends were loved deeply, she never met a stranger, and relished every second visiting with those she loved. She was always up for an adventure, whether it was shopping for shoes, jewelry, or make-up, finding accessories for her home, or enjoying a meal out. Biddie was the best dressed and accessorized in any room, lighting up the room with color, sparkle, and her smile. All of these things made her the most fun grandmother, aunt, and friend. In addition, Biddie was a lifelong Presbyterian. She enjoyed hymns, her favorite being It is Well With my Soul, took joy in reading the Beatitudes in the Bible, and visited nursing homes as a ministry. In recent years, Biddie enjoyed living near family, attending events, and being present for special occasions. She always kept in touch with family and friends near and far, all while making new friends along the way. Most recently, she was a resident of Elizabethan Gardens in Monroe, NC, whose staff took wonderful care of her, becoming an extended family. Survivors include daughter Jo Ann VanCamp (John), granddaughter Elizabeth Higginbotham (Eric), great-grandchildren William, Joshua, and Eva; step-grandchildren: Jennifer Ireland (Matt), Ryan, Andrew, Liliana, Sophia, Josiah, Noah; Amy Bobbitt (Joe), Madeline, Michael; Chris VanCamp (Lisa), Jason, Adam, and beloved nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life Service will be at Tallent Funeral Home (1937 N. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte, NC) on December 9th, 2021, at 2:00 PM . Inurnment will follow at South Park Christian Church at a later date. As an honor to Biddie's memory, please feel free to wear colorful clothes and fabulous shoes.
