Tribute & Tallent Funeral and Cremations
Hardy Bradford Smith
December 25th, 1921 - February 10th, 2015
Hardy Bradford Smith, 93, of Fort Mill South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Hardy was born to John and Maggie Smith, December 25, 1921, in the close knit community of Reynoldson, North Carolina. The youngest of four children, he spent his youth on the family farm. He stood out as a "Star" in many theater productions and on the basketball team for Gates County High School. Hardy graduated with distinctions such as "Most Popular" and "Biggest Flirt" in the class of 1940, then graduated from Chowan College in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Hardy served his country as a"""""""" First Sergeant in World War II from 1943-1946 where he received the Asiatic-Pacific Service, Good Conduct and World War II Victory Medals. He married Ann Robertson of Micro, N.C. in 1948 and went on to raise four children in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he worked as an Analyst with Gulf Oil/Chevron Oil. After retirement, Hardy returned to live in the historic farmhouse in which he was born. He took jobs for the 5-Star Virginia Commonwealth Hotel (Bookkeeper) and Shevels Menswear (Sales). In later years he returned to Charlotte, NC where he was closer to family. Hardy"s love of theater, movies, music, dancing and cooking continued throughout his life. His quick laugh, great sense of style and twinkling blue eyes always made him the most interesting man in the room. Affectionately known by many nicknames: H.B., Hardy, and Smitty, he loved the beach, and spent many happy hours in the sun and sand during his lifetime. An annual family beach trip continues to this day. He was a sweet, caring, true southern gentleman with a sharp mind, soft heart and a hilarious, sarcastic wit. He aged gracefully and lived a life of quiet religious conviction. We will all miss him greatly, but think of him with a smile when we hear rain on the roof, swing on a porch swing, see spring flowers bloom and autumn leaves fall. Hardy was a loving father, and is survived by his four children: Hardy Bradford Smith Jr., Robyn Frey (Chris), Carol Case (Mark), DeAnn Whitfield (Lee) and his former wife Ann Smith. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Reynoldson Baptist Church, 73 Reynoldson Road, Gates, North Carolina 27937. (252) 357-0595 In accordance with his wishes, a private family celebration of his life will be held in place of a formal service. Tribute Cremation Society is serving the Smith family.
