Edward Bratton Land
July 27th, 1938 - February 1st, 2022
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Ed Land, of Charlotte, NC passed in peace on February 1, 2022. He was born on July 27, 1938 in Chester, SC to Julia Asbill Land and Bratton Land. He was a 1956 graduate of York High School and spent his time working on his familys farm where they raised beef cattle and grew peaches. He graduated in 1960 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Clemson University. Ed served in the R.O.T.C. while at Clemson and went into active duty as 2nd Lieutenant with the United States Army in the Transportation Corp. in 1960. He served over two years in active duty at Fort Eustis in VA, Fort Rucker in AL and Fort Hood in TX where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He served two years in the reserves in Salisbury, NC. Ed went on to work and consult as an engineer at Sonoco Products, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, H.B. Maynard and Company, Kendall Company, Coltron, Falkenberg Associates, Branson Company, Werner Management Consultants and Roberts Curry and Company. Ed was a devoted member of Carmel Presbyterian Church where he was ordained as a Deacon and Elder. He faithfully served for Room in The Inn at Carmel Presbyterian Church where he treated the neighbors with compassion and respect. He enjoyed reading the bible, his daily devotionals, walking every day, working in the yard and Clemson football, where he was one of their biggest fans. He was known as Eddie, Ed, Boom Boom, but most of all Pop, whom he was called by his grandchildren. He treasured his family and enjoyed yearly beach vacations and spending quality time with them. Ed will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jo Ann, his children Kristy (Ernest) Griffin, Lisa (George) Hilbish, Brad (Carla) Land, his grandchildren; Katie Griffin, Madison Griffin, Anna Grace Hilbish, Macey Land and Bratton Land and his sister Jane Ratliff. He also leaves behind several nieces and a nephew. Family, friends and others whose lives were touched by Ed are invited to a memorial service on February 5, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Carmel Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC. Ed requested that memorial contributions be made to Carmel Presbyterian Church, 2048 Carmel Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226 where he was a faithful member.
