Memorial

Jacqueline (Jackie) Smith, 90, wife of Bill Smith (deceased), only daughter of Herb and Willa Zinn (both deceased) joined her loving husband August 10, 2020 in Monroe, North Carolina, peacefully in her sleep. Monroe Square Memory Care was her home for the last few years where she was lovingly cared for by many staff members. Jackie was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, a Canadian through and through, when she met her husband Bill, an American, at Pike Bay, Ontario where both their parents had cottages. She married and eventually got her American Citizenship. She was a terrific tap dancer in her youth, and after high school went on to design school. She was always a stylish dresser and took great pride in her looks and presentation. After living in several different states due to Bill's career, Fla, NC, they settled in Berea, Ohio, later to join both their daughters in California, where they made their home in Manteca, before moving back to NC in 1997. Jackie enjoyed raising her daughters, sewing, crafting, knitting, socializing with friends and family and was an excellent cook. She later excelled in a career in real estate in Berea, Ohio. She always enjoyed church and was active in church choirs wherever she lived. She and Bill loved to dance and did so often. In her later years she was an avid fan of her TV soaps, loved stamping and her pets. She had taken in numerous stray cats and dogs over the years. No animal was a stranger. She loved babysitting her granddaughters when they were younger and sharing her hobbies with them. She is survived by daughters Carol (Brad) Nagie and Janet (Tom) Neill, two beloved granddaughters Kelsey (Adam) McManamy and Natalie (Seth) Caison, and great granddaughter Brooklyn McManamy, with friends and family in Canada, Ohio, and around the country. There will be no service at present, due to Covid, and her immediate family will place her ashes with her beloved husband in NC at a later date. Donations may be sent in her name to Humane Society of Alamance County, PO Box 5117, Burlington, NC 27216, (hsaconline.org), or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 2719 Bellemont-Alamance Rd., Burlington, NC, 27215 if so desired.
