William Hollis Yearick, III

William Hollis "Bill" Yearick III passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017, in Charlotte, NC, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 81 years old. Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA, September 27, 1936, to the late William Hollis Yearick Jr. and Virginia Kathryn Siggins Yearick. He graduated from Coral Gables (FL) High School in 1954 and then earned his B.A. degree in English from Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC) in 1958. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and served from 1958-1960 as an Armor Officer. On November 7, 1959, Bill married Ann Fairchild ("Billie") Pennell. Upon completion of his military service, they moved to Winter Park, FL, where he worked in marketing and sales in commercial property and casualty insurance. He was a charter elder at Tuskawilla Presbyterian Church in Oviedo, FL, and worked with the youth program there for a number of years. Additionally, he was involved for more than twenty years as a volunteer leader in Young Life, an organization that promotes spiritual development in teens and young adults. After moving to Huntersville, NC, he attended Independence Hill Baptist Church and was an active member of its Sunshine Sunday School Class. Bill is survived by his and Billie's seven children: Mike (Phyllis Caldwell) of Clive, IA; Carrie (Bill Wall) of North Potomac, MD; Jane (Scott Davis) of Ooltewah, TN; Matt (Lori Smelley) of Lilburn, GA; Jennie (Chris Griffin) of Charlotte, NC; Kevin (Sarah Hehman) of Jackson, MS; Jeff, also of Jackson, MS; and nine grandchildren: Kallie Yearick; Jasper, Jensen, and Joel Davis; Jackson, McKenna, and Annaclaire Yearick;and Kamden and Kinsley Yearick. He is also survived by his brother, John K. (RoseAnn Pallonari) Yearick of Miami Lakes, FL, his sister, Virginia Yearick Nunley of Panama City, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved bride, Billie, in 1991. A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. January 1, 2018, at Independence Hill Baptist Church (10220 Independence Hill Rd., Huntersville, NC 28078).
