Margaret Crane Butler June 16, 1927 - February 25, 2015 Clara Margaret Crane was born to Frank Ernest Crane and Bessie Lanier Perry Crane on June 16, 1927 at the family home in Marvin, NC. She married Stewart Back Butler in York County and they settled in Charlotte, NC. They were blessed with one child, Stewart Black Butler, Jr. in 1949. Stewart Sr., known as "Hink," worked for the Charlotte News and then for the Observer, while Margaret worked as a beautician and for the A & P grocery stores. In 1979, they moved to N. Myrtle Beach, SC, where Hink enjoyed playing golf and Margaret kept a vegetable garden. She also made friends with many neighbors and became "Aunt Margaret" to their children. She always took the time to talk with people, ask about their families, and share stories of her life. She was a wonderful cook and passed on many favorite recipes. After Hink died in 2000, Margaret moved to Fort Mill, SC. This was very close to her old family home in Marvin, and Margaret was able to attend Banks Church again. She made new friends and rekindled old ones. Many who met Margaret were amazed by her knowledge of the history of the region and how many memories she had of the old days. She also remembered stories she had heard as a child that stretched much farther back in time, giving a rich and detailed picture of the people who had lived there. Over the past two years, her health started to decline and Margaret moved to Rock Hill, SC. Even in her final days, she entertained the nurses and staff at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. They adored her and were amazed at her life stories and knowledge of the area. A special thanks goes to Marcella Williams, who was Margaret's trusted friend and was at her bedside when she passed. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, five of her seven siblings, her husband Stewart Sr., son Stewart Jr., and grandson Brian Jacob Butler. She is survived by her brother John Crane of Charlotte, NC, sister Cornelia Plyler and husband Frank of Garner, NC, daughter-in-law Nancy Butler of Austin, TX and grandchildren Juanita Butler and Cameron Butler, also of Austin, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a celebration of Margaret's life on Saturday March 21, 2015 at 2:00pm at Banks Presbyterian Church located at 10012 New Town Road in Waxhaw, NC 28173 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Banks Presbyterian Church, 10012 New Town Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173, or to the Wayne T.
