Clarence Bynum Adams
July 16th, 1932 - April 30th, 2014
Clarence Bynum Adams, 81, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. Born July 16, 1932, in Randolph County, he left the family farm for the U.S. Army in 1953, after which he continued on to N.C. State University where he earned a degree in Agribusiness in 1960. After graduation, Clarence began a career with First Union National Bank that spanned 43 years. He entered the banking world as a trainee and retired as an executive in 2003, having held roles of increasing responsibility in many areas of operations and mergers. Clarence"s faith always played a major role in his life. Providence Baptist Church has been blessed by his service and leadership over the last 40 years. He served in many areas of leadership in the church, including deacon, teacher, and mentor. Clarence was supportive of his children"s and grandchildren"s activities. He encouraged them through his involvement in all their activities"sports, music, Boy Scouts, church youth trips. Clarence loved to travel; he and his wife, Bonnie, took numerous trips both in the U.S. and abroad. He especially enjoyed visiting children and grandchildren when they lived overseas. Being outdoors and working around the house was a true joy for Clarence. He took much pride in maintaining an immaculate yard. Clarence is survived by Bonnie Wooten Adams, his wife of 57 years, a son, George Adams and wife, Kay, of Richmond, Virginia, a daughter, Susan Adams McConnell and husband Jim, of Shelby, North Carolina, six grandchildren, Benjamin, Daniel and Rebekah Adams, Luke McConnell and wife, Mary, Evan, and Molly McConnell, a sister-in-law, Henrietta Adams of Asheboro, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. The memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted Wednesday, May 7, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary of Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Road, Charlotte, NC. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.
