Betty Cooke Hayes

Mrs. Betty Cooke Hayes, 74, of Charlotte, passed away the morning of October 12, 2015 at CMC-Northeast in Concord, NC. Mrs. Hayes was born in Boone, NC, on October 28, 1940, the daughter of Joseph Edgar Cooke and Lucille Hopkins Cooke. She graduated from Appalachian H.S. in 1959 and attended Appalachian State Teachers College. She taught kindergarten at Cokesbury UMC and Hickory Grove UMC and later taught at East Mecklenburg High School where she was also sponsor of the Cheerleaders and the Lettergirls. She loved dancing with her husband, going to the beach, joking around, and spoiling her granddaughters. Mrs. Hayes is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jim Hayes, daughter Marti Bozarth and Todd, son Burt Hayes and Penelope and granddaughters Abby, Brooke and Reagan Bozarth; brothers Bob Cooke (Ruth), John Cooke (Patty), Tom Cooke (Jan) and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 11:30am Saturday, October 17, 2015, at University City UMC, 3835 West W.T. Harris Blvd., Charlotte, NC (Corner of Sugar Creek Rd. and West W.T. Harris ), followed by a service to celebrate her life at 1:00pm, officiated by Dr. Ron Smith.
