Mr. Donn Edward Perkins was born in Coffee County, Georgia on August 7 th, 1954. He was the son of Albert and the late Eva Mae Perkins. He was proceeded in death by his brother George General Perkins. He made his transition to his heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ on August 18th , 2016. Donn gave his life to Christ Jesus at an early age of 8 and then joined the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, in Willacoochee, Georgia. God used him in every stage of his life journey. Donn was a native of Willacoochee, graduated from Southwest High School in Atlanta, GA., and in 1975 from Fort Valley State University, with a B. S. degree in education. He played baseball and football in High School and focused on football and ROTC at Fort Valley. He also was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. From 1976 to 1983 he was Navy Bomber Pilot with the call sign "Black Duck". One of things he was most proud of was that with the grace of God, he did not have the gene to quit or ever leave any stone unturned within him. He stuck to his guns, even when everybody said he could not, and He got his wings in 1977. In 1983 he joined the US Airways family and successfully flew the DC-9, Boeing 737, 320/321, and the Boeing 757/767. He married Ms. Ava Bell, and to this union on March 28th, 1985 their only son was born, Donn Lymone Perkins. He was the joy of their life, prior to her making her transition to The Lord in 1995. Brother Donn, as many called him, joined the Central Church of Christ, in Baltimore, MD. Upon relocating to Charlotte, NC, he placed his membership with the Sugar Creek Church of Christ. He had been a faithful member since its inception. He served in many leadership capacities at Sugar Creek, played an integral part on the Finance Committee for years, wrote a financial column in the Church newsletter, and sang in the Sugar Creek chorus. Donn had the Spiritual gift of Giving, but he also had a heart of gold. He helped so many, many people in various capacities that ranged from sponsoring graduates, funding scholarships, funding weddings, and giving relief to those in financial distress. He wanted to help everyone that wanted to be successful, both spiritually and financially.
