Izola Louise Neilson was born July 12, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lawrence and Izola Mosley. The second youngest of 12 siblings, Izola had nine brothers and two sisters. Izola was a devoted Catholic, community advocate and a treasured mentor to many throughout her long life. While raising her two children as a single parent and working full-time, she received her bachelor's and master's degrees both from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Additionally, she worked part-time at a local department store to leverage the employee discount for furniture and clothing for her children. Her first job was an Elevator Operator. Next she would transition to a government role as a Telephone Operator, ultimately leading to top secret clearance as a civilian fully-warranted Contract Negotiator for The United States Air Force. Notably, she was involved with the Stealth Bomber & F-117A Fighter projects. After a faithful and devoted 36-year career with the United States federal government, she would retire as a GS13 (equivalent to an Air Force Major). Creatively, Izola launched and became President of Neilson Enterprises, a commercial art business in Trotwood, Ohio. She was actively involved with the Opera Guild, Urban League, Habitat for Humanity and Hospice all in Dayton, Ohio. In addition, she was supportive of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra while residing in Georgia for several years. Izola is survived by her son James Christopher Neilson and his husband Michael Scott Litherland and daughter Tracie Dionne Neilson. She is also survived by her brothers Sherman Mosley, Waverly Mosley, and Jerry Mosley of Dayton, Ohio and a plethora of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
