Janet Handler Jaffa

Janet Handler Jaffa, 85, of Charlotte passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center. The daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn Handler, Mrs. Jaffa was born on September 3, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. She came to North Carolina to attend the Woman"s College of the University of North Carolina, now known as UNC Greensboro, and made the state her home. In 1951 she married Sol Jaffa and moved to Charlotte. A longtime member of Temple Israel, Mrs. Jaffa was active in many committees and other areas of the synagogue, including serving as president of the Temple Israel Sisterhood. She was also a member of B"nai B"rith Women, where she was president of the local chapter and traveled to many conventions and events. In addition, she was heavily involved with the PTA at each of the schools attended by her daughters. Mrs. Jaffa was preceded in death by her husband Sol Jaffa, parents Joseph and Evelyn Handler and brother Morty Handler. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by three daughters, Wendy Rosen and husband Frank of Charlotte; Sheryl Bauer and husband Mike of St. Louis, MO; and Dayle Fligel and husband David of Hartsdale, NY. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Josh Rosen and fianc"e Beverly Eckard; Brian, Kevin and Lindsay Bauer; and Sidney and Erin Fligel; as well as two great grandchildren, Madeline and Matthew Eckard. A funeral service will be held at Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Road, on Sunday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m., followed by internment at the Hebrew Cemetery of Charlotte. The family requests that attendees please refrain from wearing perfumes or colognes.
