Jocelyn Hill, age 95, died at Sharon Towers in Charlotte, North Carolina. Church Educator, mentor, disciple of Jesus Christ, and friend to countless individuals over her long life, Jocelyn was a woman of indomitable spirit - feisty and energetic. A passionate reader, she could be counted on to haunt bookstores, give books as gifts, and discuss the most current books with friends. A generous hostess, she frequently welcomed people to her home and was known for a custom of hosting church-worker friends on Easter dinner of lamb, after they had made their way through Lent and Easter weekend She was a joyous and inveterate traveler. Her amazing list of destinations: New York City (to attend Broadway plays), Maine, the North Carolina coast; Canada; England; Scotland; Ireland; Italy and France; Australia and New Zealand. Jocelyn was born on December 11, 1925, in Charlotte, NC to Harvey Hill III and Ruth Blankenship Hill. Her great-grandfather, Daniel Harvey Hill, was a Confederate general. Her grandfather Harvey Hill II, for whom the North Carolina State University library was named, was the third President of North Carolina State University from 1909-1916. Ms. Hill was a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte, of Women's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC-G), and of the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (now Union Presbyterian Seminary). A certified Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Educator, she served as Church Educator at churches in Pensacola, FL; Decatur, GA; Charlotte, NC; and Jacksonville, FL before settling in Charlotte as Associate Presbyter for Leadership Development. During her long career, Jocelyn led countless workshops and training sessions and wrote manuals, study guides and journal articles. She inspired and challenged students of all ages. She received the Distinguished Alumna Award from Presbyterian School of Christian Education and the Life Achievement Award from the Association of Presbyterian Christian Educators. Jocelyn was predeceased by her brother Harvey Hill IV. She is survived by her nieces Randye Finigan and Wendy Lawton. A Witness to the Resurrection Service will take place on December 29 at the columbarium at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Those wishing to make a Memorial gift may do so to Union Presbyterian Seminary or to Adult Christian Education at Myers Park Presbyterian.
