James Alexander Davis

James Alexander Davis, born 9-12-1932, son of John and Bertha Davis of Union county, died on June 17, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Sarah Simpson and Ruth Stegall. He is survived by wife Phyllis, brother Ed Davis of Monroe and sister Doris Haigler of Huntersville. A loving father of three boys, he is survived by: Mike (Sarah), Jeff (Ronda) of Charlotte, Scott (Charlotte) of Hickory. Grandchildren Courtney (Al) Killeffer, Bess Davis, Mandi (Kevin) Harris, Amanda and Hunter Davis. Great-grandchildren: Alexander and Scarlett Killeffer. James remained close to his brother and sisters and to all their children, all of whom he loved greatly. After serving stateside in the US Army during the Korean War and being an early enrollee in Charlotte College (UNCC), James entered the building construction industry and was a long-term owner of Davis and Wingard Associates which supplied hardware and specialty items for the construction industry. James was a talented woodworker building birdhouses and other projects, and he was also quick to help his family with household issues and repairs. A lifelong baseball fan, James coached many fine young men in the Charlotte Little League system including all three of his sons. There were times when Phyllis was attending eight baseball games a week! A kind and decent man, who never spoke ill of anyone; James lived a full life filled with the love of his family in whom he delighted to no end. The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM on Thursday, June 21 at J.B. Tallent Funeral Service, Charlotte, NC, followed by a service to celebrate his life at 2:30 PM.
