Richard William Keffer, Jr. "Dick" Richard (Dick) William Keffer, Jr. passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 at Baptist Nassau Hospital in Fernandina Beach, Florida. He was born in Littlestown, PA on February 27, 1933. Rich, as he is known to family, was the oldest of six children born to Richard William Keffer, Sr. and Lenore Marie Nash Keffer. He was preceded in death last June 1st by his wife of 59 years, Constance Overbaugh Keffer. He is survived by his five children, R.W. (Rick) Keffer, III (Hollie) of Fernandina Beach FL, Ann Pipes-Flanigan (Robert) of Boone NC, Karen Baucom (Michael) of Matthews NC, Michael Keffer (Allyson) of Nashville, NC, and James Keffer (Sandra) of Charlotte NC, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by all his siblings; John Keffer and Walter Keffer from York, PA. Lenore Arcuri from Myrtle Beach, SC, Pete Keffer from Rockford, IL, and Joseph Keffer from Selinsgrove, PA. His alma mater is York Catholic High School in York PA, an institution he cared for his entire life. For sixty four years he was a United States Marine. A Korean War combat veteran, he flew the flag at his residence"s and was intensely proud of being a Marine. He entered the automobile sales profession in 1960 in York, PA as a sales associate and had found his career passion. He became a dealer in 1974 in Charlotte, NC and went on to fund over 30 dealer buyouts. His legacy in the industry is being carried out by many outstanding dealers, their teams, and families. He maintained an office until the end and lived for the automotive profession. Dick Keffer was a dedicated Rotarian, serving Charlotte South Rotary Club and helped create the Beach Blast, where 500 middle schoolers from Charlotte Mecklenburg school system travel to Myrtle Beach each year, most for their first look at the ocean. The 27th Beach Blast occurred this spring. A lifelong Catholic, he believed in supporting the church, the diocese, and Charlotte Catholic High School. His involvements are too numerous to list. Visitation and a reception will be held at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte on Thursday October 1, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 2, 2015 at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church by Monsignor Mauricio W. West, VG Diocese of Charlotte and Father Frank O"Rourke, Pastor of St. Gabriel, Concelebrant with a reception to follow. His interment will be on Saturday, October 3 at 11:00 AM in McSherrystown, PA at Annunciation BVM Cemetery, where he will laid to rest beside his wife. Because he helped so many he had no specific memorial intention.
