Louis George Scott
April 12th, 1921 - February 13th, 2017
George "Scotty" Scott, 95, died peacefully the morning of February 13, 2017, with the skies crystal blue and the sun shining. He was born April 12, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Scotty is survived by his brother John Scott and his wife Elizabeth; his loving sons, George Jr of Charlotte, Curtis Scott and his wife Susan of Charlotte, Bill Scott and his wife Lizzy of Lake Norman; grandchildren, Curt Scott Jr and his wife Cecilia, Aaron Roper and her husband Matt, David Scott II, Lindsay Scott, Sadie Scott, Will Scott, and Lydia Scott; great-granddaughter, Addison Roper, and great-grandson Charlie Scott; and goddaughter Alice Ann McHenry. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Ellie, his son David Sanford Scott, and his brothers Richard Scott and Warren Scott. Scotty graduated from William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and while at school participated, and excelled, in football, basketball, track, and tennis. He went on to the University of Virginia where he played football and tennis for the Cavaliers. He joined the Navy Air Corps in 1942, where he was trained as a pilot of the Grumman Avenger torpedo bomber. He was a decorated officer who was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp in the Pacific theater during World War II. Moving to Charlotte from Chicago in 1961, Scotty and his loving wife Ellie, raised their children in a stable home and loving environment. His time was spent earning a living and enjoying life with his wife and four sons. He was a charter member of Olde Providence Racquet Club, in Charlotte, and spent many years playing and enjoying his favorite sport, tennis. His sons inherited his love of athletics. In 1972, he formed his own Manufacturers Representative Agency which became George Scott and Associates. The business grew to include his three sons, grandson and both his daughters-in-law. Until his death at 95, he worked each day with his family. Truly a kind and gentle man, in his later years he was happy, content, and at peace with himself until the day he died. Each new day was a joy. Now he"s with his one and only, Ellie, We should all be so lucky. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18th at Selwyn Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte with The Reverend Rush Otey, officiating. Visitation will follow at the home of Curtis and Susan Scott, 4213 Oldfield Rd, Charlotte NC 28226. 2/18/2017 11:00 AM Memorial Selwyn Presbyterian Church
