Preceded in death by his father, Robert, David was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 20, 1958. He came to Denver with his parents when he was 3 months old. David is survived by his mother, Linda; his sister, Elizabeth Sparks and sister Karen Emery (George). Also survived by nephews Sean and Garrett Johnston, loving aunts, uncles and cousins. David was developmentally disabled due to an unfortunate car accident when he was a toddler. He was a light in the life of his family members and community. He served as Poster Child three years running for the Metropolitan Association for Retarded Children and as such met many noted figures including Billy Graham, Senator Ted Kennedy, Governor John Love and Debbie Reynolds at the world premier of the movie "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". He was an outgoing child who loved people and animals. David attended George Hook School for special needs children in Jefferson County, and later attended and graduated from Weiland School in Lakewood. He traveled to Kentucky with his team mates in 1978 to compete in the National Special Olympics Basketball Tournament. He participated in many Special Olympics events and was proud of his many medals. He was a Cub Scout for several years while the troop was active and enjoyed camping. After graduation from Weiland School, David worked for many years at the Jefferson County Sheltered Workshop. David particularly enjoyed his nephews, Sean and Garrett, and delighted in watching them grow from babies to young adults. David enjoyed travel and the family was fortunate to take many memorable vacations over the years.
