James J. Edwards

James J. Edwards, 97, of Charlotte, NC died Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Royal Park Nursing & Rehabilitation. Mr. Edwards was born in Anniston, AL to the late Jethro David Edwards and Pearl E. Hause Edwards. He was reared and lived with the late John A. Plott and Nora Lee Plott of Waynesville, NC from the age of 6 years old. He was pre-deceased by his wonderful and loving wife, Carolyn W. Edwards after 62 years of marriage and by a son, David Carl Edwards at the age of 6 years. He will now join his mother in their heavenly Father's home. Mr. Edwards graduated from Waynesville High School and volunteered for the Army in 1943. During World War II he served in in the European Theatre and was involved in the Battle of Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge and received the Bronze Service Star and other medals. After the War, he entered Mars Hill University then transferred to Auburn University and there received his L.L.B. Law Degree from the Atlanta Law School, Atlanta, GA. He then started working in the Legal and Claims Departments with Warren Insurance Company. Shortly afterwards he was recalled as a Reservist into the Korean Conflict and served in the Judge Advocate office. He served Insurance Companies for over 30 years and retired in 1992 from the Continental Insurance Company. Mr. Edwards was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. A service in celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC with The Reverend Chuck Williamson officiating. He is survived by his children, James Edwards, Jr. and his wife, Deborah , of Bellhaven, NC and Carol Edwards Lowe and husband, Ronald;, of Charlotte, grandchildren, Jason, Andy, and Courtney; and great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Mac, Alana, and Lexi.
