Joyce Harrison Nickerson
May 12th, 1926 - January 1st, 2013
Joyce H. Nickerson, 86. Golden, Colorado Born May, 12, 1926 in Gorton, England, Peacefully passed into our Heavenly Father's arms January 1, 2013 in Jupiter, Florida. She was preceded in death by her adoring husbands, Frank Harrison and Edward Nickerson. Leaving behind her heartbroken daughters, Georgina Miller & Helen Pande Her loving step daughters, Nancy Powell & Laura Nickerson, Handsome Son in-laws, Jim Pande & Willie Powell, Amazing Grand children, Thomas & Keith Conrad, Raymond & Brittany Miller, Trenton Pande, Tony & Audrey Powell Precious Great Grandchildren, Naia & Alexander Conrad. Joyce spent her childhood growing up in Manchester, England. As an only child she could get herself into some trouble with her Mother, such as lighting her Father's chair on fire and kicking a bully in his chin for calling her banana legs. She lived through World War 11 where she spent many a night in the air raid shelter hearing the bombs drop around her. Only to discover one morning that the bomb had missed her home but destroyed and took the life of her friend across the street. She loved running and had some massive calf muscles from her years of training to run for England. However the war broke out and her dreams were put on hold. She went on to marry her first husband Tom Stubbs and their union produced her first born beautiful daughter, Georgina. When their marriage ended in divorce, Frank Harrison whom had loved her since she was 15 came back from America to marry her and adopt Georgina. As a family they came to the states and settled in Colorado where her second daughter Helen was born. After settling in Golden, she continued to be an amazing homemaker and spoiled her children with more love and nurturing then anyone could have imagined. She loved to work in her garden and cherished every day that she had living in this beautiful country. After Franks sudden passing she was settled in her mind to grow old alone. However, that was not God's plan and a wonderful man named Edward Nickerson swept her off her feet and knocked her on her fanny. She married her wonderful "Teddy Bear" and they travelled the country together leaving laughter and smiles wherever they went. Joyce loved her family deeply and dearly. She was very protective over her daughters and never laid a hand on them. However that did not stop her from dealing with bullies. Georgina was bullied on the bus by two boys. They would tease her about her English accent and put chewing gum in her hair. Joyce would have none of it and while waiting for the school bus hid from the boys in the bushes, chased them, caught them, drug them by the scruff of their collars for Georgina to recognize them. She then snatched the one boys glasses off his face and snapped them in half. She shoved the other one to the ground telling them to never mess with her daughter again or they would be messing with her everyday from here on out! She did the same thing to two girls who bullied Helen by pushing her and calling her names. She waited for them and shoved them to the ground reminding them she would do it everyday after school if they continued to mess with her daughter. Joyce's daughters were NEVER bullied again. She was tough and stubborn but had a heart of GOLD. She enjoyed her friends and easily made friends wherever she went. She had an amazing sense of humor and loved to sing silly songs, embarrass her friends or shock you with a dirty joke!! She will be missed by many. In loving memory of her and her humor, don't forget (as she would say), to keep your peckers up! God Bless the USA! There will be a viewing at 12-1:30 pm at Aspen Mortuary, 6370 Union St., Arvada, Co. 80004, Friday, January 11, 2013. She will then be laid to rest as a proud American Citizen in Fort Logan Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave. Denver, Colo. 80236 at 2:00 pm
