ELEANOR A."ELLIE" AMBROSE, age 91 of Jefferson passed away on Sunday May 21, 2017 at Sunset Ridge Memory Care in Jefferson. She was born in Watertown on May 8, 1926 to Henry and Clara (Roch) Pitterle. She graduated from Watertown High School, and then briefly worked at J. C. Penney in Watertown. She married Heron Ambrose on May 29, 1948 at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Watertown; he preceded her in death on September 21, 2009. Her career was taking care of her family and always being available for her children and grandchildren. She had a special talent for being able to fix or mend anything. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She always had banana cake or cookies for everyone who would stop by, and they all knew where "grandma's" cookies were located. She enjoyed playing cards both Bridge and Sheepshead and was a member of several card clubs. She enjoyed teaching and playing crazy eights with her grandchildren. Eleanor was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jefferson. She participated in the choir for a few years, was a past member of the St. Anne's Society and active in working for church and funeral dinners. She volunteered many years at St. Coletta's in the mail room and at St. Vincent de Paul. She will be deeply missed by her family, 6 children Kathy (Jerry) Andersen of Madison, Jim (Mary Marozick) Ambrose of Menomonee Falls, John (Jodi) Ambrose of Oshkosh, Jeanne (Jack Wafle) Ambrose of Whitewater, Bob (Patti) Ambrose of Oconomowoc, Cindy (Chris) Nash of Jefferson. 9 grandchildren, Jana (Dan) Singer, Joe (Stephanie) Ambrose, Nathan (Jen) Ambrose, Sara (Jeremy) Newman, Kelly (Andrew) Mischock, Pearson, Shannon, Courtney and Lauren Nash. 6 great-grandchildren Kai and Eloise Singer, Harper Ambrose, Cameron and Dylan Ambrose, Miles Newman. Sister-in-laws, Virginia (Joe) Burnett of Jefferson, Arlene Peirick of Watertown. She is preceded in death by her husband Heron Ambrose, infant son Gerald Ambrose, sisters Gertrude Pitterle, Dorothy (Elmer) Ambrose, sister-in-law Lorraine (Norbert) Riedl, brother-in-law William Peirick. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday May 25, 2017 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Thomas Coyle officiating, with burial to follow in the Parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon. Special thank you to Laura and the Staff at Sunset Ridge Memory Care in Jefferson, Sunset Ridge Assisted Living in Johnson Creek, and Rainbow Hospice. Memorials in Eleanor's name may be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jefferson, Alzheimer's Association, or to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson.
