Roscoe Marrs
December 13th, 1926 - June 15th, 2024
Roscoe Richard Marrs, 97, was born in Springfield, MO on December 13, 1926 and left this world to meet his Savior June 15, 2024. He was born to Helen and William Marrs. He spent the bulk of his life in Tucson, AZ, where he moved with his family from Springfield, MO when he was 13. He graduated from Tucson High and attended Pepperdine University for one year where he played baseball. He married Jennie Vivian Young on May 2, 1947 and celebrated 72 years of marriage before she passed in 2020. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Mann, of Phoenix, and four children (and their spouses): Truda (Art Pauly); Roxanne (Jack Tallon); Rick (Paula); and Randy (Wyletta), as well as 6 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Roscoe (also known as Bud) worked for the bulk of his career as a ticket clerk and baggage handler for Greyhound Bus lines, and served as a minister for Churches of Christ in Marana and Tucson. Roscoe also served for several years as an elder at the Mountain Ave. Church of Christ in Tucson.
Roscoe loved sports, especially baseball and golf, and was an avid hunter. Having grown up in difficult circumstances, he was legendary in his family for his ability to build, repair, or repurpose almost anything broken or in need of service. He loved spending time with his family and sharing stories from his past as well as serving those in need. Although he often spoke less than others, when he spoke his comments were filled with wisdom and compassion. While he will be missed by those who knew and loved him, those same people know he also lived his earthly life faithfully and with integrity so that he might live his next life with God.
