Ernestine Beryl Lewis
May 1st, 1929 - January 23rd, 2014
Ernestine was born to Thomas & Beryl Heuschkel on May 1, 1929 in Glenwood Springs. She grew up on a ranch located on Cattle Creek and graduated from high school in Glenwood Springs. Ernestine married Albert C. Lewis on August 8th, 1948, after meeting him at a dance in the summer of 1947. After their marriage they were both active members of the community. Ernestine was a founding member of the Eagles Auxiliary and a lifetime member of The Order of Eastern Star. She loved to play card games of all kinds. She and her husband were in a pinochle club that met once a month for many years. She taught all four of her grandchildren to play the game. She lived with MS for more than 50 years with grace, courage, and a tenacious zest for life. With the support and aid of a group of amazing caregivers, Ernestine was able to remain living with her daughters until 2009. She lived the last years of her life at the Exempla Colorado Lutheran home in Arvada, CO. The staff provided her with care and compassion. In return she provided many a comforting ear and encouragement to fulfill their dreams. She passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2014. Ernestine is survived by four children: Christine Vallee (Steve), Wayne Lewis (Laurie), Jeanne Lewis, and Karen Jackson (Tom); four grandchildren: John Ould, Melissa Jackson, Bridget Brown (Chris), Brooke Lewis: and two great grandchildren: Sydney and Aiden Brown. Ernestine is survived by her brother Don Heuschkel. She was preceded in death by her husband Al, brothers Austin and Vern Heuschkel, sister Peggy Sholes.
