Orville “Orv” Fabian Quandt, age 90, passed away peacefully among loving family on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at The Pillars Hospice Home in Oakdale, MN. Orv was born May 25, 1932, in Rochester, MN to Everett Quandt and Alice King. Following his graduation from Forest Lake High School in 1950, Orv enlisted at Fort Sill, OK as a cannoneer in The US Army Field Artillery. He went on to serve his country honorably and earn the rank of Corporal in the Korean War; after being drafted in 1951 to ensure the preservation of freedom and democracy across the globe. Upon his return, Orv had the good fortune of dancing with Phyllis Sabatke, a woman who would bring him four (usually) wonderful children and 67 years of loving marriage. Orv received his diploma in electronics, radio, and television from Saint Paul Area Vocational School in 1956. After graduating, he dedicated over 30 years to Sperry Univac/Unisys as a computer engineer. In 1987, he retired comfortably to pursue travel and spend time with his loving, and now growing family. Orv truly lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures: bowling, fishing, hunting, softball, and spending time traveling with family. Orv’s unique sense of compassion gave him the uncanny ability to reach people on their deepest achievable level. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, and they were guaranteed to learn a thing or two in the process. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Quandt; stepbrother, Dennis Capaul; daughters, Ramona Quandt, Sheila Arnold, and Melinda Padilla; grandchildren, Chad Quandt, Angela Dominguez, Bret Quandt, Luke Arnold, and Salvador “Hunter” Padilla; great grandchildren, Gracelyn Kruger, Gabriella Myrman, Blake Quandt, and Madeline Quandt; cousin, Gordon Quandt and Richard Quandt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett Quandt and Alice King; brother, Everett (Phyllis Sams) Quandt Jr; son Mark Quandt; cousin, Kenneth Quandt. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 31st, 2022, at The Sandberg Funeral Home (2593 E. 7th Ave North St. Paul, MN 55109). With Visitation to be held at 10:00 AM and a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. There will also be a 1:00 PM luncheon at the Eastwood Village Club House (6181 Upper 35th St N Oakdale, MN 55128).
