PAVLISIN, ALICE MAUREEN October 8, 1935 - May 24, 2014 Alice Maureen Pavlisin passed away Saturday, May 24, 6:00 AM, at her home in Wheat Ridge, CO, following an extended period of hospitalization and hospice care. Alice was born in Cambridge Springs, PA. on October 8, 1935. She graduated from Edinboro State Teachers College, now Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1956. She taught Art in Meadville and adjacent communities in Northwest Pennsylvania. She married Steve Pavlisin, a fellow graduate from Edinboro STC, on Christmas Day, 1957, in Meadville, PA. She moved to San Antonio, Texas and resided there while her husband served in the Army Medical Corp at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. She worked in the Art Department of the San Antonio Public Library. They both moved to Denver in the fall of 1959 to commence teaching Art in the Mapleton School District of Adams County, Colorado. Alice served as the Art Teacher in Bertha Heid Elementary School of Thornton for 26 years. While teaching Art, she helped to establish a local community theater group in the Thornton area. It became the Spotlight Theater, one of the earliest amateur groups in the Denver area to offer well attended and proclaimed productions using local talent. Upon retiring from teaching, she created and owned a Graphic Arts Studio which designed Rubber stamps. She established Asya Graphics to promote, manufacture, and sell her Art stamps through mail orders and direct retail outlets. These included various craft and art shows and seasonal fairs in the Denver area, as well as other communities throughout Colorado. Her favorite outdoor activity was gardening and looking after stray and ferule cats in the neighborhood, as well as the natural birds, insects and wildlife (squirrels) attracted to her gardens. She is survived by her husband Steve Pavlisin of Wheat Ridge, CO and family pets, Twink and Twyla; her Cousin Ann Lucas and Nieces Diane Black, Rebecca Hood, Nancy Hixon and Nephews Michael Lucas and James Lucas of Fort Collins, CO and Cousin Jane Peterson of Meadville, PA. She is preceded in death by her mother, Viola Drucilla Brock, her Step- Father George Brock, her Aunt Mabel Galyan, Uncles Jim Siverling, Raymond Lewis, Arthur Lewis and Frank Lewis.
