Bill Moen William Ray "Bill" Moen, age 69, died on Tuesday, May 21,2024, after a brief yet difficult battle with lymphoma. Bill was born to Raymond and Adrienne (nee Bruckner) Moen on November 3, 1954, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Bill joined his older brother, Jordan, to create their family of four. As a son of a Coast Guard dad, Bill moved around the US, residing in Duluth, Minnesota; Kodiak, Alaska; Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; and then back to Duluth. Bill graduated from Duluth East High School in 1972. It was during his time in Duluth where he met Sandra Kehtel. Sandy knew she’d marry Bill the very first time they met at Bergen Lake. She was right! They later married on June 30, 1988. Together, Sandy and Bill made their home in Maplewood, Minnesota, raising two sons, Ricky and Robby. His roles in life included son, brother, husband, father, and most recently - grandfather. Bill worked in various positions throughout his time, both as a drafter and a professional recruiter. His skillset was varied and unique as he was known for his clever drawings and his whistling ability. In retirement, Bill enjoyed traveling with Sandy in their camper. They camped their way up the North Shore of Minnesota and they travelled to Wisconsin, Nebraska, Montana and Wyoming. Together they enjoyed seeing Hawaii. In addition to traveling, Bill’s other retirement activities included riding his E-Bike, playing chess online, and perfecting his golf skills. Bill will forever be known for his sharp mind, quick wit, and storytelling. He loved researching old and long-gone Wisconsin taverns. He authored several books including “Badger Bars and Tavern Tales”. In retirement, he led ghost tours in Stillwater, MN, spinning stories to entertain the masses. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sandy; sons Richard and Robert (Gao); and grandson, Louis. He is also survived by his brother, Jordan (Linda). He leaves behind countless people who enjoyed his love of poker and trivia, as well as a good beer and a cigar. He will forever be remembered for his classic entrance into the cold waters of Bergen Lake. He will be dearly missed. Bill’s funeral service will be held at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2449 Helen Street N., St. Paul, MN, 55109. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with the service to follow at 11:00am. A lunch will be served at 12:00pm. Family requests donations in Bill's name to be made out to ASPCA or Salvation Army.
