Reinhold Dave Schmidt
April 30th, 1921 - June 22nd, 2014
2 Timothy 4: 6-8 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight,I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Reinhold †œBlackie†� Schmidt was born at home on April 30, 1921 in Windsor, Colorado. After high school and working for the Civil Conservation Corp, he enlisted in the Navy in 1942, where he became a radar instructor. Blackie met Sarah Naftz in Greeley, Colorado and married May 18, 1943, residing in Greeley, Arvada and Battlement Mesa, Colorado. After 37 years of service as a store manager and buyer, Blackie retired from Safeway. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and Rving as a member of the Boulder Rollers, visiting every state but one. He is preceded in death by his mother Kathryn, his father Dave and his sister Lorraine. Dave & Kathryn were born in Russia and immigrated to the United States in the early 1900†™s. Blackie is survived by his children, Kenneth (Sandy) of Golden, Colorado; Robert (Alyse Cadez) of Lewiston, Idaho, and Janice (Robert) Freeburg of Honolulu, Hawaii. Grandchildren Mike (Becky), Tony (Joanne), Eric (Ai), Kristin (Chris), Travis Cadez (Keely) and Adam (Taryn). Great-grandchildren, Chris, Will, Nic, Madelaine and Jack Schmidt, Zion Freeburg, Gunner Hau and Melody Schmidt/Cadez. After a family graveside memorial service, Blackie will be laid to rest alongside Sarah in the Battlement Mesa Cemetery.
