Anslem John Pierre
January 27th, 1945 - December 8th, 2023
Anslem John Pierre—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—passed away on December 8, 2023. He was born on January 27, 1945, in Palo Seco, Trinidad & Tobago to Maude Pierre and Sepherino Mejias. In passing, Anslem has been reunited with his beloved wife—Louise Pierre. Across seventy-eight years, Pierre maintained a loving and honorable approach to life. As a young man, Anslem became a respected member of the Trinidad & Tobago Regiment. In 1971, he was personally asked by Bhadase Sagan Maraj—a prominent Indo-Trinidadian politician and activist—to serve as a bodyguard for his state funeral. Anslem, whose love for Trinidad & Tobago never diminished, immigrated to the United States for the sake of his family in 1973. From Port of Spain to New York to Minnesota, Anslem remained committed to learning and developing a variety of skills. He loved to garden, nurturing a towering banana tree despite the challenging weather conditions of Minnesota. As a skilled steelworker, Anslem helped build some of the tallest structures in the Twin Cities. He constructed custom weights, artwork, pots, and pans. After rising to prominence as a world-class sprinter in Trinidad & Tobago, Anslem remained a lifelong athlete. In Minnesota, Anslem worked with track teams and swam laps in Lake Nokomis. As a lover of music, he filled his home with records and songs. Anslem and Louise would share tender slow dances in the living room, creating an atmosphere of love and warmth etched into the hearts of those fortunate enough to bear witness. Through love and warmth, Anslem nurtured the dreams of his children and inspired his grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic, and was guided by faith through times of struggle and grief. Anslem John Pierre remains a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His loss is a wound soothed by the blessing of memory, love, and faith. The service to honor Anslem John Pierre will be at 10:00 am on December 19th at St. Peter Claver Church. Following the service, he will be interred at Calvary Cemetery next to his beloved Louise. Spielman Mortuary
Spielman Mortuary has been helping Saint Paul families since 1950 when Kenneth and Helen Spielman purchased the National Funeral Home. For over 30 years, the couple lived above the funeral home and took just one vacation. They sold the home in 1984 to the Willwerscheid family. We still operate Spielman Mortuary with the same traditions of pride, sensitivity, value, and attention to detail that the Spielmans followed for over three decades....
