Steven H. Harris

Mr. Steven H. Harris Sr., 73, of Tryon St. Amsterdam, passed away Friday morning, October 23, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Tonawanda, NY on June 27, 1942, a son of the late Elmer and Ruth Haskin Harris, he was a 1960 graduate of Fredonia High School in Fredonia, NY. In the early 60's, he moved permanently to the Amsterdam area. Mr. Harris was employed for over 37 years at the former Adirondack Knitting Mills in Amsterdam as a Textile Mechanic. He later went on to attend FMCC and received his Certified Nurse's Assistant certificate. He worked as a CNA at the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam for 6 years before retiring in 2008. Steve enjoyed the outdoors and camping and was a former member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. He married Patricia A. Sikorski Harris, the love of his life, on April 11, 1964. They cherished every day of their 47 years together, until she passed away on July 7, 2011. They were bound together by an unbreakable love, lifting each other's spirits and giving true meaning to the word devotion. Steve is survived by his loving children, son Steven Harris, Jr. of Amsterdam and daughter Maria (Eugene Jr.) Agresta, also of Amsterdam; his beloved grandchildren Victoria (Allan McArthur) Harris and Brandon Harris; his brother, David Harris; niece, Nancy Harris, nephews, David Harris and Mark Michalski. Cousins also survive. Steve's family would like to send their most heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of NYOH, who cared for Steve as if he were one of their own as he struggled with his illness. They would also like to acknowledge the nursing staff at St. Mary's Hospital who never failed to meet him with kindness and compassion during several unfortunate visits. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 6:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam with Father O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00P.M. at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
