Jean E. Schanthal, 63, of Gloversville passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at her home surrounded by her beloved family. Born May 20, 1952 in Los Angeles, CA, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Mary Conradt Clark. Jean was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Burke High School in Gloversville then went on to receive her bachelor's degree from SUNY Brockport in 1976. Jean was a gifted artist and used her talents to teach and educate her community at the Fulton County Arts Council and retired from Liberty as a Client Coordinator after 25 years of dedicated service. She also dedicated her time teaching a G.E.D course for the Gloversville School District. Jean always looked forward to her trips to Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head Island, SC with her beloved husband Michael; she had a special place in her heart for her two grandsons Landon and Kaiden whom she adored. Most of all people will remember Jean for her bubbly personality, her wonderful sense of humor and kind smile that could light up a room and make anyone forget about their troubles. Jean was also a proud breast cancer survivor. Survivors include her beloved husband of 33 years Michael Schanthal of Gloversville; daughters Courtney Schanthal (Matthew Schreivogl) of Gloversville, Lauren Schanthal (Robert W. Rulison) of Gloversville and Kacey Pitcher (Shaun) of Green Island, NY; sister Mary Licardo (James) of Gloversville; brother Thomas Clark (Donna) of Johnstown; grandsons Landon and Kaiden Pitcher; nieces Ryan Licardo of Gloversville, Ashley Licardo of Troy, NY, Kylen Clark of Johnstown, Kristen Schanthal of Troy, IL, Jacque Dzikowski of San Antonio, TX and Donia Schanthal of Syracuse, NY; nephew Wesley Clark of Johnstown. Jean is also survived by her brother-in-law Timothy Schanthal (Marianne) of Troy, IL. She is predeceased by her mother and father-in-law Charles and Dorothy Schanthal. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 10 A.M. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville with Rev. Dr. RW Williams officiating. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will take place on Wednesday, September 30 from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Jean's memory to Susan G. Komen, P. O. Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75265-0309.
