Carl R. Bahn
March 19th, 1937 - September 19th, 2015
Carl R. Bahn, of Cary, NC, passed away peacefully in Apex, NC on Saturday, September 19th, after a long illness. He was born in Amsterdam, NY on March 19, 1937 to Carl A Bahn and the former Geraldine F Rogers. Carl was married for nearly 54 years to the love of his life, Peggy, the former Margaret G LeRoy, whom he met in church. They had 3 children: Terrilynn Aves of Cary, NC, Timothy Bahn of Essex, VT and Tracey O'Neill of Littleton, MA. Carl graduated valedictorian in 1955 from Wilbur Lynch High School in Amsterdam, NY. He graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in English. His love of radio broadcasting and writing led him back to Amsterdam after college to WCSS Radio Station, where he had worked part-time since high school. In the spring of 1961 he met Margaret LeRoy. After a whirlwind courtship, they married November 25, 1961 While at WCSS, he often played "Peg O' My Heart" on the radio for his bride. In 1965, Carl began a marketing and advertising career at GE in Schenectady, NY. Carl was transferred with GE to Pittsfield, MA in 1968 and then to Hickory, NC in 1972. In 1979 he moved to West Boylston, MA to take a position with Riley Stoker in Worcester, MA. He also worked for GMA in Allentown, PA and did freelance voiceovers and writing prior to retiring in 2002. He and Peggy moved to North Carolina in 2005 for warmer climates and to be closer to their older daughter. Carl was a devoted family man, volunteering for both Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities as well as PTA involvement. While living in West Boylston, MA, he was an active member of St. Michael-on-the-Heights church as a choir member, junior warden, senior warden and in countless other ways. He loved reading, traveling and listening to all types of music, especially classical. He liked to dabble in photography and ham radio. He followed the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and enjoyed rooting for local sports teams once he moved to NC. Upon moving to NC, he and Peggy became active participants in the Cary Senior Center. In addition to his loving wife and children, Carl is survived by his 5 grandchildren (Ryan Aves of Ann Arbor, MI; Kayla Aves of Cary, NC; Eric Bahn of Essex, VT; Ashleigh and Elizabeth O'Neill of Littleton, MA.) His son-in-law Dennis Aves, daughter-in-law Kristin Bahn and son-in-law Brian O'Neill all enjoyed cooking for him when he and Peggy visited. Family was very important to Carl and was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. When he couldn't be with them, the phone calls from them relating their latest adventures brought laughter and joy. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5th at 11:00 AM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. An hour of visitation will begin prior to the service Monday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Chuctanunda Cemetery in Minaville. On Saturday, October 10th at 11:00A.M. am, the family will hold a Memorial Service at St. Michael On-the-Heights Church, 340 Burncoat Street, Worcester, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging donations to: National Parkinson's Foundation, St. Michael's On-the-Heights Organ Fund and the Humane Society.
