Charles Caruso

Obituary BRB FFH Amsterdam, NY Charles R. Caruso, 79, passed away peacefully in the comfort of St. Peter's Hospice Inn on Wednesday, Sept. 9th. Charles was born May 23, 1936 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam to the late Ralph A. and Elvira Rossi Caruso. He was a 1954 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He served in the US Army in Germany from 1955 to 1957. Charles received his B.B.A. in accounting from Siena College in 1962 and later his Master's in Education from St. Rose in 1967. He did his graduate work in educational Administration through SUNY Albany. He began a long career with the Greater Amsterdam School District retiring after 30 years as Director of Finance and Treasurer of the Board of Education. He also served as treasurer for the boards of GAVAC, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation and the Rotary Club. Up until June 2015, he worked as a part time bookkeeper for the Town of Amsterdam. Charles was a parishioner of St. Mary's RC Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Elsie Barbato Caruso in Dec. of 2000 and his brother Franklyn Caruso in July 2014. He leaves his longtime companion JoAnn LaBate Spagnola of Amsterdam, his daughter Elise Caruso Miczek and her husband Peter of Ballston Spa and his 3 grandchildren Stephanie Miczek and twins Vincent and Kyle Miczek; a son Charles Caruso, Jr. from Fl; his brother Ralph Caruso and wife Dolores; sister-in-law Rita Caruso; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins; JoAnn's children Renee, Rick and Gary as well as her grandchildren Brian, Matt, Mahgan, Derek, Samantha and Allison. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Mary's RC Church, 156 East Main St. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave. Interment with Military honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.
