James "Shambo" Ralph Raiano
December 23rd, 1926 - April 5th, 2015
James Ralph "Shambo" Raiano, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam with his loving family at his bed side. Born December 23, 1926 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Santo and Concetta Danuici Raiano. He attended local schools and he was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Jim worked on the railroad and construction for a number of years. He was last employed by the former Montgomery Meadow in Amsterdam. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Jim was married to the former Shirley Jean Markes who passed away in 1991. Survivors include three daughters Terry Ann Billington of Amsterdam, Virginia Marie Webb of Amsterdam and Angela Raiano of Amsterdam; five siblings, Mary Delegge of Florida, Angie Ferlazzo of Amsterdam, Virginia Penge of Amsterdam, Rita Loucks of Amsterdam and Eleanor Brooker of Amsterdam; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was predeceased by his siblings; Caesar Raiano, Anthony Raiano, Anna Rizziello, Alfred "Mac" Raiano, Theresa Triola, Margaret Walden and Raymond Raiano. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 12 noon at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 37 Division Street, Amsterdam. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill with military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 to 12 pm at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to the Montgomery County SPCA, PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
